In the pursuit of the American dream, Frank W. Koy founded Koy Concrete in 1956 when he recognized a need in Austin County for a ready-mix concrete plant. As a younger man, Frank completed a tour of duty in Europe during WWII where he met and married Eveline A. Major in England in 1945. They returned home to Sealy, Texas in 1946.
Upon his return, he entered the land clearing and trucking business. At the time, people in the area were mixing concrete by hand, and Frank recognized a need for a ready-mix concrete plant. So, in 1956, he took a chance by investing in a concrete plant and two trucks and founded Frank Koy Ready-Mix. The earliest jobs he supplied concrete to include the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sealy and the original Sealy Elementary school on West Street. His first substantial project was supplying the bridges on Interstate 10 in the early 1960’s.
The current Sealy plant on Highway 90 East was constructed in 1965. Koy incorporated in 1968 and the Frank Koy Ready-Mix name was changed to Koy Concrete, Inc. The Katy branch of Koy Concrete was purchased in 1972, and in 1988 a third branch was opened in Columbus. In 1998, the Katy location added a rail facility and a dual plant to double its capacity. In 2021, the most recent Koy Concrete branch was opened in Fulshear. The company has supplied numerous large and complicated commercial, industrial, and state projects over the years.
KOY CONCRETE TODAY
Today, Koy Concrete is still family owned and operated. Frank Koy’s son, son-in-law and grandsons run the business, and are involved in its day-to-day operations.
Beginning as a sole proprietorship with two used trucks and growing into a thriving business with over 70 employees and 50 ready-mix trucks, Frank and Audrey Koy epitomized the American dream.
The Koy family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all its past and present employees and to all the customers who have helped make the business what it is today.
